Hello, I am Mrs Cole; the year group leader for Year 4.
This year, your child will be learning about and exploring a number of exciting topics including: Chocolate, Fashion, Active Planet, Temples, Tombs and Treasures, do You Live Around Here? and Bright Sparks.
We will study a wide and varied curriculum following our cross-curricular linked units which will provide the children with many opportunities to expand their knowledge, engage in practical activities as well as make progress with their learning.
Myself, Ms Javaid and Mr Hogan hope that your children enjoy their time in Year 4, as much as we are looking forward to teaching them.
For more information about topics that we are studying, your child’s learning and how you can support them during the year, please refer to our year 4 class blogs.
In English we study a variety of texts and genres including stories from other cultures, non-fiction texts and poetry. We use core texts such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Bill’s New Frock, Meerkat Mail and The Iron Man.
In Maths we will be learning key arithmetic skills such as using different mental and written methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. In addition to arithmetic skills your child will explore shape, time, fractions, data handling and will apply their maths skills to investigations and problem solving.
Children in Year 4 also have the opportunity to take part in swimming lessons at Becontree Leisure Centre.
