Hummingbird Class – Science investigations
This week, we have been exploring the effects of gravity and air resistence in science. We have explored the link bewteen mass (kg) and weight (N) and took part in two different investigations that helped us really understand these forces.
First, we used Newton Metres to measure the mass (kg) of an object and then compared it to the weight (N). Once we had found the relationship between the two, we could then use itto work out any mass in newtons and vice versa. We found that 100g = 1N! Look at us measuring items below.
Then, we used the effects of air resistence and gravity to test out Gallileo’s theory of different objects falling at the same time regardless of their size and weight. Using what we had learnt about air resistance slowing objects down, we made predictions as to which item we thought would fall first. After, we made five different parachutes (each with a different material) and tested to see which one would fall the slowest – and therefore be the perfect parachute. Take a look at all the fun we had!
